About Leo Vance

Welcome to Plant Growth Guide. I’m Leo Vance, and if you’ve been reading my guides, you know I don’t approach plant care as a casual hobby. For me, it is a matter of biological survival, technical precision, and—occasionally—personal redemption.
My journey into the botanical world started in a humid Florida greenhouse where I spent my youth learning the subtle language of Aroids and tropicals. I eventually moved to a minimalist loft in Portland, Oregon, where I now battle 30% winter humidity and the persistent curiosity of my 14-year-old rescue cat, Barnaby.
The 2018 Catalyst
People often ask why my guides are so meticulous. The answer lies in the winter of 2018. A freak power outage in my loft turned my entire rare Aroid collection into a frozen graveyard of black mush in less than 48 hours. I lost specimens I had babied for a decade. That loss made me obsessive. It forced me to stop relying on generic internet advice and start investigating the actual cellular biology and hormonal responses of these plants.
My Mission
I founded Plant Growth Guide to provide the kind of high-level, authoritative insight I wish I’d had back then. You won’t find generic, two-sentence tips here. I dive deep into the science—from apical dominance to rhizosphere oxygenation—to ensure your collection doesn’t just survive, but thrives.
Sincerely,
Leo Vance
